Is there a volunteer org for seniors needing home gardening services

Depending where you live, volunteers belonging to an organization are not able to work on private property due to liability. Check with your city hall and ask if they have volunteer opportunites and does that include gardening. It is really nice that you want to help other out. I am a volunteer coordinator for a city and have much respect for volunteers.

Call ur local United Way, ur local volunteer center (the Points of Light Foundation web site can help u find such) & local churches, temples & mosques, telling them u represent a volunteer organization for seniors & would like to provide light gardening for seniors & homebound people in ur area. Have dates & times for ur availability, a minimum number of people who will be available, & a list of the type of services u will offer. Also, assure those u contact that u have all of the equipment needed for this endeavor, that there is an adult who is affiliated with this group through the school (and have that person is name & contact information), that ur organization is officially recognized by ur school (otherwise, there may be liability issues & people may be reluctant for u to come on their property & engage in gardening), & that u will comply by city ordinances regarding the disposal of leaves, grass, etc.

When u land ur first volunteering gig, take lots of photos & get a testimonial from the person u have helped. Using the photos & the testimonial in ur outreach efforts will help u land even more volunteering assignments.

Check with your county is extension office. They usually have a Master Gardener is group and they may be able to help you out.
